Having built reputation on the quality of their products, Buddha Seeds are now a recognised seed bank worldwide and have been rewarded with recent wins at cannabis cups, including a prestigious award at Spannabis 2014.
We sat down with the reputable seedbank to ask them our 10 Quick Questions.
1. How was Buddha Seeds born?
As a seed bank, we started to work with our varieties in 2005, although we had been tinkering with crosses at a semi-professional level . We saw great potential in the auto-flowering varieties, and were surprised that no seed bank would fix their eyes on this field. So we focused on developing and refining these strains. However, our gene bank is very large and we have many contacts in this business, so we also cultivate regular varieties. We are proud to know that many of the varieties on the market come from our seeds.
2. Why was Buddha Seeds Created/what is the aim of the company?
We saw a significant niche market with auto-flowering plants, that barely existed before. So we started to create our own varieties. After almost a decade, we can say that we have supplied a significant consumer demand.
3. What makes your seeds different?
Our research department is possibly the best in Europe and unlike other seedbanks, we launched to select only market varieties. We do not want to saturate the customers or stores. Our variety development process is a team effort, despite the fact that marketing support level is often the image of the star breeder. Not all the work is done in one place and by the same person. Variety development requires the coordination of many farmers, and much of this work is administrative.
4. What is your most popular strain?
We are proud of all our genetics and indeed our varieties have served as master lines for many big seedbanks. As an example, Deimos was a milestone in the history of autoflowering , since when it emerged there was no auto that managed a production of 200 grams per plant. Therefore, Deimos was picked up by many other banks to make it from their own crosses.
We also love Syrup . It is a compact plant that is not excessively large and has a special sweet taste.
5. What unique strain would you recommend people try from your collection?
There are no perfect genetics. Genetic adapt to different conditions, and methods of cultivation areas . There are plants that are suitable for outdoor growing in countries with many hours of sunshine, and yet are not suitable for indoor. However, if looking for a large yield with short flowering time, try Kraken.
6. If you could say why people should by from Buddha Seeds in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
For the faithfulness with which we work in the study of each of our varieties.
7. Any special/secret cultivation tips you can let our readers know about?
The first and best advice I can tell growers is to have patience, since many lack it and eventually stress; throwing more water or inadequate doses of fertilizers.
The first 20 days are critical for autoflowering plants. If you have any problems during those first few weeks, it can impair the plants ability to bloom.
We recommend that you read our blog where we give a lot of advice on the cultivation of cannabis.
8. Do you have any brand new strains soon to be released?
We are very excited about Vesta, a new autoflowering compact that is a fast and very productive variety, with large side branches and buds.
9. What does the future hold for Buddha Seeds?
We continue to work on developing new varieties , but we wanted to take a leap in the field of research. We were the first bank to investigate the issue of polyploidy in cannabis. Our first results have been published in the the ICMag forum, especially to demystify polyploidy myths.
We are also very excited about our upcoming collaborations with the University of Valencia. We want to develop plants with higher THC content.
We are also interested in industrial hemp , production of which has declined considerably in recent decades in Spain.
10. How can people find out more about Buddha Seeds?
We have a customer service team that takes care of all customers who are interested in our varieties
We also have more direct channels of communication with customers, such as social networks, whether Facebook , Twitter, Google + and Instagram. We are happy because our Fan Page is the most active in the Spanish Cannabis industry.
