“Happy Pizza” in Cambodia

So its been a long time since I had a happy pizza and writing these blogs seemed like as good an excuse as I was ever going to have for trying this delight once again!

Due to the quirk in the local tolerance towards using cannabis in food, places offering you a very happy pizza experience are everywhere, the proliferation of these restaurants is amazing and the inventiveness of the names always makes me smile.

So basically they are normal food places that also do cannabis topped pizza at varying strengths dependant on your requirements. The code for cannabis is ‘ Happy’ and the strength is normally reflected in how ‘ happy’ you want your pizza – so a super extra happy pizza is going to be stronger than a normal happy pizza!

I made the mistake of ordering a fairly plain pizza with lots of extra happiness, as It turned out that tasted like dry grass clippings so I would highly suggest going for a pizza topping with lots of flavours to mask the feeling of eating dinner out of your lawn mower.

You can also ask for a bag of ‘Happy’ and if your lucky you will be supplied with a fairly large ziplock bag full of long bugs dried and ready to smoke for around $10-25 depending on how big the bag and how good the weed is. It’s all vey hit and miss but on this occasion I got lucky and walked out with my pizza and a big bag full of nice long local buds and headed back to my hotel for a munchie session and a good look at what I’d managed to find on the first day in town.

Like I mentioned before, the pizza turned out to be pretty disgusting but I took one for the team and carried on eating it well past the point I wanted to throw it in the bin. Apparently, the reason weed pizza can be so effective is the oils from the cheese melt through the weed underneath if you do it correctly and you are basically getting THC infused pizza oil. Mine however just tasted of dry garden waste…

Forbidden Fruit imported from America

I placed out all the baggies I had in my pockets on the bed and selected some girl scout cookies for a nice spliff on the balcony as I looked out over the royal palace at night and the Mekong river running past. It is a beautiful sight and whether it was the super extra happy pizza stating to take effect or the imported weed slowly taking me off my adrenaline rush from all the traveling over the last few days, I lay down on the bed and was asleep before I could even really tell if the pizza had done anything.
